Our Services

At Gowers Surveyors, our experienced building surveyors provide a complete range of surveying services for homeowners, buyers and property investors throughout Stamford and the surrounding areas. As members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, we offer RICS Level 1 Surveys, RICS Level 2 Home Surveys and Level 3 Building Surveys, alongside specialist advice for period and listed properties. Our local knowledge of Stamford’s historic buildings, traditional stone properties and rural homes allows us to recommend the most appropriate property survey for your needs.

Whether you are purchasing a modern home, a Victorian townhouse, a listed building or a character property in the surrounding villages, our surveys provide clear, practical advice to help you understand the condition of the building and make informed decisions. For older and historic properties, our Historic Building Surveys provide specialist insight into traditional construction methods, maintenance requirements and potential defects.

RICS Level 3 Building Survey (Full Building Survey)

Formerly known as a Full Structural Survey, a Level 3 Building Survey is the most detailed residential survey available. It is particularly suited to older, larger or altered properties, including many of the historic homes found throughout Stamford, providing a comprehensive assessment of defects, repairs and ongoing maintenance requirements.

RICS Level 2 Home Survey (HomeBuyer Survey)

A RICS Level 2 Home Survey is suitable for many conventional residential properties and provides an assessment of visible and accessible parts of the building. It highlights significant defects, potential issues and areas requiring attention, helping buyers make informed decisions before purchasing.

RICS Level 1 Survey (Condition Report)

A RICS Level 1 Survey provides a straightforward overview of a property’s condition at the time of inspection. It is generally suited to newer homes in reasonable condition and identifies key risks or urgent concerns that may require further investigation.

Local Surveying Expertise Across Stamford

Stamford has one of the most distinctive property markets in the region, with a rich mix of Georgian townhouses, Victorian terraces, traditional stone cottages, listed buildings and rural properties. Each type of property presents its own construction methods and maintenance considerations, making local knowledge an important part of carrying out an accurate Building Survey.

Our surveyors regularly inspect properties throughout Stamford and the surrounding villages, including Barnack, Uffington, Easton on the Hill, Ketton, Ryhall and Great Casterton. We understand the common issues affecting homes across the area, including ageing stonework, damp, roof defects, structural movement, traditional construction methods and alterations made to historic properties over time. Where required, we also provide specialist Historic Building Surveys for listed and period properties.

Whether you are purchasing a Georgian townhouse in Stamford, a character cottage in the surrounding countryside or a modern home in a nearby development, every survey is tailored to the individual property. Our reports provide clear, practical advice based on the building’s age, construction and condition. If you are unsure which inspection is most suitable, our guide to choosing the right survey explains the different options available, or you can explore our full range of residential surveying services to find out how we can help.

Case Studies

Building Survey

A client was concerned about a number of aspects of this attractive period property in Stamford. Our surveyors carried out a Historic Building Survey to provide a thorough analysis of the condition of the building. We identified a number of problem areas and prepared a 100+ page report outlining areas needing repair, health and safety concerns, risks and implications as well as advice on legal matters. The report also gave detailed advice on what can and can’t be done with listed buildings as well as how to maintain and look after a property of this age and type.

RICS Level 2 Survey

Our building surveyors carried out a RICS Level 2 Survey (formerly refered to as a HomeBuyer Report) on this home in the centre of Stamford. Having uncovered issues with the roof, we were able to provide our client with the information to successfully renegotiate the purchase price, as well as providing peace of mind that the property was generally in good condition.
